The Battle of Waterloo, fought on 18 June 1815, marked a decisive turning point in European history, permanently altering the continent's political landscape. The battle ultimately culminated in the defeat of Napoleon and the end of his reign, ushering in a period of peace and stability in Europe.

The British Army, commanded by Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington, consisted of British, Dutch, Belgian, and German troops. Wellington's forces were well-trained, disciplined, and strategically positioned to repel the French attack.

The French Army, under the leadership of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, was a formidable force, boasting both experienced veterans and newly conscripted soldiers. However, they were somewhat exhausted after a prolonged campaign in the region.

The Prussian Army during the Battle of Waterloo, played a crucial role in the outcome. Led by Field Marshal Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, the Prussians arrived as reinforcements for the British-led forces during the latter stages of the battle, ultimately tipping the scales in their favour.

The Battle of Waterloo began with a series of manoeuvres by both the French and British-led armies. Napoleon sought to divide the British and Prussian forces, attacking the former while keeping the latter at bay. However, the strategic deployment of Wellington's troops and the timely arrival of the Prussian reinforcements significantly hindered Napoleon's plan.

As the battle progressed, the French repeatedly launched assaults against the British and allied lines, only to be repelled time and time again. The tenacious defence by Wellington's forces ultimately prevented a breakthrough, and the Prussian reinforcements, arriving from the east, applied additional pressure on Napoleon's troops.

The turning point came when the French Imperial Guard, Napoleon's elite troops, were committed to a final assault on the British lines. The Guard was met with fierce resistance and, for the first time in their history, was forced to retreat. With the Imperial Guard's failure, French morale plummeted, and the tide of the battle irreversibly turned against Napoleon.

The Battle of Waterloo proved to be a pivotal moment in European history, resulting in the defeat and subsequent exile of Napoleon Bonaparte. The victory of the British-led forces, bolstered by the timely arrival of the Prussian Army, marked the end of a turbulent period and ushered in a new era of stability and peace in Europe. On the fields of Waterloo, in the year of 1815,

Europe's fate was decided, in that historic scene,

Allied nations stood opposed, with their armies in tow,

The British and the Prussians, against the French, their foe.

From across the Channel, from the British Isle,

Their leader, the Duke of Wellington, through a steadfast style,

With his troops from England, Scotland, and Ireland too,

Faced the French, with courage at Waterloo.

The British were not alone, in this epic fight,

The Prussian army arrived, and joined in the incite,

Led by General Blücher, with their colours waving high,

And with the British, Napoleon they would defy.

Against them stood the French, led by Napoleon Bonaparte,

With his fiercely loyal troops, and with warrior’s heart,

From all of France, they came with a mighty roar,

To conquer Europe, like they'd done once before.

The battle raged on, through the day and night,

As each side fought hard, with much excite,

The cannons roared, the muskets fired,

The horses charged, and were much admired.

However, in the end, it was the Allies' day,

They fought with bravery, keeping the French at bay,

The Battle of Waterloo, marked the end of Napoleon’s Age,

And a new era of peace, would soon take the stage.

Let us respect all those heroes, who fought like hell,

On that fateful day, who battled and fell,

Their sacrifice not forgotten, their memory endured,

For they fought for their countries, making our fate secured.

As the battle raged on, with a mighty grumble,

The armies clashed, and they had a rough tumble,

As the brave guys fought, their tale soon to be told,

The outcome, being dead on the ground, cold.

The Battle of Waterloo, a fight to the end,

Where menfolk clashed, and soldiers did defend,

With muskets and swords, and a fierce bout,

The battle was won, with men knocked about.

The story of that day, when you stand back and survey,

Of the battle that was fought, in such a bloody way,

The Battle of Waterloo, became a turning point in time,

And its legacy endures, in this grewsome rhyme.
